Breast Cancer Awareness
Posted on: 10/11/2011
Did you know?
About one in eight women will develop breast cancer over the course of a lifetime. The good news is breast cancer is curable when caught early - especially if it is still non-invasive. That's why it's important to do your own self-exams, see your doctor, and get a mammogram. Because the earlier breast cancer is detected, the better your chances are of surviving it.
Are you at risk?
You may be at risk for breast cancer if you have two or more of the following risk factors or symptoms:
- You are female
- You are over the age of 40 (although breast cancer can also strike younger women, and more rarely, men)
- You are Caucasian or African American
- Your sister, mother or daughter has been diagnosed with breast cancer (although well over 70 percent of breast cancer appears in women with no family history)
- You have increased exposure to estrogen over the course of a lifetime due to early onset menstration or late onset of menopause
- You have taken HRT therapy
- You have tested positive for the BRCA1, BRCA2 mutation
- You have noticed a lump in your breast or armpit
What can you do?
Schedule an appointment for a mammogram with our accredited imaging department. Breast cancer frightens many women, but remember: 88 percent of the American female population will never receive an invasive breast cancer diagnosis. Be one of them: schedule an appointment.
