Imaging Center Received ACR Accreditation in Mammography
Posted on: 07/21/2011
SEATTLE, July, 20, 2011 – Minor & James Medical, a multi-specialty physician group with locations in Seattle, Bellevue and Mercer Island, was granted a three-year term of accreditation in mammography by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This accreditation is a testament to their provision of the highest level of imaging quality and patient safety.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women in the U.S., regardless of race or ethnicity. Mammograms are the best method to detect breast cancer early, when it is easiest to treat. A mammogram is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts and is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.
The ACR gold seal is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
